Publications - Global Petroleum Market Outlook

The Global Petroleum Market Outlook service consists of the following two basic modules:

Petroleum Balances

This module provides a comprehensive analysis of worldwide supply and demand for crude oil, petroleum products and refinery capacity covering over two hundred countries. Trade matrices for crude oil by quality grade and for the major refined products are developed. A review of refinery capacity requirements is provided for each major region. The major analytical effort takes place in the first quarter of each year and the accompanying report and tables are completed in March or April of each year. Adjustments are made during the year, but the full update of historical data and all of the detailed balances is performed once per year, consistent with the flow of data. The analysis is provided in both an annual published report and in CD format. All the numerical information and the text of the report are also available to clients on the Purvin & Gertz Internet site in downloadable form.

Prices and Margins

This module utilizes the results of the Petroleum Balances module and provides forecasts of refining margins, benchmark crude oil prices, and refined product prices for each of the major world trading centers. Special regional editions focus on more localized markets and regional crude oils. A report describing the basis for the forecasts is issued in the Second Quarter of each year. The volatility of crude oil and product markets has resulted in quarterly updating of the forecasts. As changes are made during the course of the year, bulletins explaining the changes are distributed. Clients always have access to all the historical and  forecast data through the Internet, as well as the written reports.
